Five Friday Faves.

Praise the Good Lord it’s Friday!!! (I say this every week)

1. Today is my cheat day.  I have been eating [pretty] healthy all week long, and I love a cheat meal on Friday night.  Last week we had this:

photo-56

If you can believe this, it tasted even better than it looks!

2. I love this.  I look forward to it way too much on Friday morning.  I don’t even have the words to tell you.

#Dying.

3. On Saturday night we are going to the duck basketball game.  #Ilovecollegesports  We had such a great time with my Mom and Dad at the Civil War basketball game a couple weeks ago, and I can’t wait to go back.  Even if I only get to go because the tickets were a birthday gift and the recipient had a conflict. Sad, but I’m happy to step in!

4. This.

FrozenYogurt-694x359v1.2

Seriously kids, run-don’t walk- to try this stuff. I can only vouch for the Vanilla Bean- cause that is my favorite flavor of anything ice cream related and so it’s all I’ve tried.  Someone recently told me you could freeze any kind of Greek Yogurt in the freezer and if you let it thaw for 20 min, it would taste just like frozen yogurt.  Well guess what? THEY WERE LYING.  Trust me I tried it. #fail #Istillateit #gagging I love few things more than frozen yogurt (If you are reading this, you already know about it), and I promise this does not taste like healthy food.  So so good.

5. Finally, can this be my license plate please?

Minus the E on the end and the California, although lately this freezing, foggy, rainy weather has me considering it.

Mondays.

Does anyone like them? i’ll be honest, I don’t really!  The only upside about Mondays for me is that because of the nature of my job- they are not the most taxing, long days.  They are shorter and a little more laid back so I can ease back into the work week.

Obviously I dislike Mondays because they mean Jason has gone back to work too and I won’t see him again until Friday.

Today is MLK Day.  I am thankful for a man who stood up and put his life on the line for what he knew was right rather than going along with what was most popular.  We could stand to benefit from a few more men like him in our culture.

Today my trainer cancelled my after-work sessions in honor of MLK day- so I had to hang out with this chick for 45 minutes:

I decided about 30 minutes in that if I had to rely on workout videos for my exercise- I would never work out.  I can’t handle the boredom and jumping around my living room. I missed my running buddy today : ) Jason has been feeling a little pain from running lately and wanted to know if I wanted to do the video over Facetime. #NO
Speaking of running, we ran on Saturday+Sunday.  Due to a family birthday party, we didn’t get to run together until dark on Saturday.  It was about 28* and dark and super foggy.  Well that was a disaster of a recipe for this girl— who biffed it.  Jason was very concerned and attentive and made me stop at Walgreens on the way home so he could buy me some Neosporine 🙂  Sweet boy.

Jason has been such an inspiration with his diet+exercise goals that I have gotten on board with him.  We are using the My Fitness Pal App on our phones.  If you haven’t used it before, I really recommend it for tracking your food and exercise.  It’s been good for me to see the breakdown of nutrition in my diet, and it is surprising how many restaurants’ calories are in there.  It’s a great resource for those trying to get healthy.

I am really excited for my volleyball game tomorrow! We have had two games so far, and we have improved a lot already.  It is just such a fun thing to look forward to in the work week.  Plus my #1 Fan will be in attendance! ; )

Five Friday Faves.

1. It is Friday! And #datenight.  If you are reading this you already know about my subtle enthusiasm for the start of the weekend.  Weekends are the best! Jason and I are going on a double date with our friends Tim and Karen who have the boat we go out on all summer.  I am excited because we haven’t seen them since our last boat day (oops)– except Tim and Jason do go to lunch from time to time.  We are going to the Cheesecake Factory and it should be so much fun! I am excited to have a little splurge after eating healthy all week. (considering splitting this)

We even get to use a giftcard that I got for Christmas. #giftcardforthewin!

2. Tomorrow is my “rest day.”  Thank the good Lord.  My knees are making me question the aging process.  Too many squats?  I don’t even know, but I’m ready for a rest and a break.

3. These little suckers.

MorningStarFarmsBuffaloWingsVeggieWings_317

Listen.  I know they are “processed food.”  I know they have a little bit of sodium.  But people, trust me on this.  They are out of this world amazing.  You need to try them.  They are only 200 calories for 5, and are a great source of protein.  I may or may not eat them 4-5 days a week.  And I don’t even feel bad.

You know it’s serious when I have Jason eating “fake meat.”  And liking it!

4.  A freshly-detailed car.  Is there anything better than this?  I’m not sure that there is.  I love the just-vaccummed, airfreshened, armor-alled feeling.  I wish it would stay nice forever.  Also, thank you, my dear Job, for buying me a car wash twice a month.  I am grateful.

5. New shoes.  That were a steal.  My old purples Nikes are starting to look a little pathetic.

Per usual, I am so stinking excited for my jumbo Starbucks in the morning that I can hardly stand it.
Have a great weekend all!

Five Friday Faves.

1. It’s finally Friday!!!!!! Which could really be a favorite of its own.  Jason is coming down tonight for #datenight in and we are doing taco night! Yum.  We have both been eating healthy and I am craving Mexican like whoa.  I think I could eat it everyday.  But I would be fat.  Which am I more excited for that or my Starbucks tomorrow? #whoknows!

2.  Downton Abbey on Demand.  Enough said.  The problem with Downton is that I love it so much I want to live in it.  If I cannot be Lady Mary, then can Jason and I at least say “Darling please, ” in the middle of our fights? I’m not feeling optimistic about selling him on this.

3. We have started booking our travel for Az Vacation.  I cannot wait.  We are so excited! Game tickets, airfare, and hotel have all been purchased, and there are more plans to come!  In N Out, Jay Alexanders, a beautiful pool with 85* sun, and oh yeah, the Mariners.  Scottsdale, in 2 months I am coming for you!!

4. My kindys team plays in our 1st game on Saturday.  Do we have any idea what exactly we will get on the court? Of course we do not! However I have to say last week’s scrimmage had some high points.  Should be fun no matter what ; )

5. The new volleyball league I just joined.  My co-worker Stacy started a team.  She is also a Christian and I can tell her literally anything and everything! She had a dream Jason and I got engaged over Christmas break and called me to make sure I hadn’t forgot to tell her lol.  I am thankful for her, and for another fun night of activity.  We had our first game on Monday and I was a little rusty, but Jason confirmed that when I jumped my feet did actually leave the floor, so we are going with that!

Want to share your Friday Faves?

Have a great weekend ya’ll!! Go Rhinos!!

New Year Fresh Start

Well if this first 10 days of 2013 are representative of what this year will be like, I can say the themes would honestly be:

-running

-non-stop time with Jason

-organization

Seriously 2013 could not be off to a more fun start. Usually I am so in love with Christmas that I experience some post-New Years blues.  Well not this year.  Jason and I were together almost constantly from December 29th on.  It has been absolutely incredible.

Why is he so cute?

Why is he so cute? He got me the New Years party hats and light up champagne flutes as a surprise, I got him the cupcakes ❤

photo-55

We have cooked and cleaned together, ran together, shopped, gone to church, had some fun meals, and did I mention running?  I am so proud of Jason and excited about all the running we have been doing! Remember those 36* days? Oh yes, we ran then too!  He has only taken 1 day off since New Years.  Boy’s on a roll!  and I am back to Bootcamp 4 times a week, and running with him on the weekends.

I have done quite a bit of organizing projects during all the time I had off for Christmas break.  I cleaned out my home office and I am so much happier with it being organized! It was that room where I threw stuff in there and closed the door quick.  There is so much paperwork for my job and I had no system for managing it.  I used to get so embarrassed when a friend would go in there to change clothes or Jason would put something in there.  I prayed they never really looked  around ; )  In addition to the office, I also cleaned out and organized 2 closets and my pantry.  I am so happy with the little improvement it makes and the joy it brings me to be in an organized space.  The best thing for my pantry was the purchase of two 84 cent plastic tubs from Target that I used to organize my vitamins (chronic pill-popper) and then my first aid/medicines.  It keeps everything so neat to have things in bins.  I am looking to incorporate this more in other areas too.

I am missing Jason hardcore with him being back in Portland this week- but already looking forward to getting together again! : )

Do you ever make a recipe for the 1st time and have literally no inkling if it is looking like it will turn out or flop?  That is me right now.  I have these Protein Cheesecakes in the oven right now (someone posted eating 1 for breakfast on Insta this morning, so I went with it)…

http://mealsandmovesblog.com/2012/02/03/pumped-up-protein-cheesecake/

I’ll let you know.

What I’ve been Doing…

Thought it might be a good idea to do a post of what I’ve been up to since my Christmas break started last week.

On Friday, Jason and I headed out to do Christmas with his extended family.  We had a really fun time celebrating, played a lot of games, and ate some great food! I got caught up on my baby time holding his 6 months old neice and playing with his 2 year old nephew.  Love them.

This is while we were out shopping for a gift and we took Grace to the car.  She liked Uncle swinging her car seat back and forth. : )

photo-48

We did a Christmas gift exchange where we each brought a girl or guy gift and then drew numbers and picked a gift from under the tree.  Originally I drew a pretty “Mom” necklace (which I was tempted to make a joke about having a special announcement- but refrained) but I traded with an actual mom and came home with this.

essenzabr_MED

Do you have a candle/wax warmer? I am excited about it.  I have heard of Scentsy and all those but never had purchased one.

Monday night was Christmas bunco! I came home with a big candle, a $10 Starbucks gift card, and one of the Starbucks reusable tumblers.  I am obsessed with those by the way.  If you don’t have one, you probley need one.  It’s only a dollar : )

Monday and Tuesday I did a lot of relaxing and caught up on laundry/some chores, as well as the usual Bootcamp (which is still killing me in a very good way).  I also did all of this:

Christmas Card writing

present wrapping.

Then yesterday I spent most of the day in the hair stylist’s chair.  It was fun…up until the moment my stylist received a phone call that she was being sued.  This with me sitting there with bleach foils all over…wondering how long they were supposed to stay on there.  Despite that bad news, everything came out how I wanted!  (after 3+ hours)

My new hair looks a lot like the old hair just an inch or two shorter with freshened up layers and some caramelly-brown highlights.  Bleach is your friend.

date night of course

date night of course

Last night I met up with Jason at Pastini Pastaria after Bootcamp for a mid-week date night.  I expected Bridgeport to be crazy and to have to circle the parking lot for 15-20 minutes to find a spot.  Imagine my surprise when I parked within 30 seconds of arriving there.

Have you ever been to Pastini?  This was my pick.  Jay and I had never been there together.  I first went there with Corban while working/at our annual Sunriver retreat.  Then about a year and a half later, I happened to be sitting at the Bridgeport location when I got the call that I had gotten the job with Lilly.  So this restaurant and I have some history.  My favorite thing there is the Gorgonzola Chicken Salad- which is no longer on the menu but they will still make for you if you ask.  Jason had their Mac and Cheese with Bacon [shocking] and we were both pleased.  You should try it if you haven’t.

Then we went to see this movie.

It was not exactly what I thought it would be- a good one to wait & see when it comes to Redbox.

Anyway, I am just loving my relaxing week over here! Hope you all are enjoying this time preparing for Christmas!

Mixed Bag.

Well, by now I am sure that all of you have heard of the shooting that happened this afternoon at Clackamas Town Center.  I spent the majority of the second half of this day feeling spooked and sad.  I am a little paranoid anyway, and I long for the day when I live in the safe place free from the evil that is in this world!  Jason and I have spent a ton of time at Washington Square and Pioneer Place malls in the past 2 weeks (him even more than me) doing Christmas shopping, so I was so thankful that my little Portlander was not at Clackamas Town Center today.  I pray for the victim’s families.  Things like this make me so mad.  What is supposed to be a beautiful season about Jesus is dampered big time by a tragedy like this.  Christmas will never be the same for those who lost someone today.

Moving on.

I have recently committed to doing the music for another wedding! I love being a teeny tiny part of such a special, beautiful day!

Random sidenote: I want these boots.  After being thoroughly questioned by this guy I know on what I would like for Christmas (saying “I don’t need anything” didn’t fly) and a couple trips to Nordstrom, I decided I kind of really like them.

nordysboot

Do you know about this lighter color of tannish-brown boot?  It’s called Cognac, and we like it a lot with sweaters, leggings, and skinny jeans.

Aside from these random thoughts, I am just ready to wrap up these last 2 days of work so I can wrap presents and do some relaxing around the house, as well as checking my mailbox 3Xdaily for my new iPhone to arrive.  #firstworldproblems

Random.

I am on a roll with blogging this week thanks to Sear, so what the heck? I’ll give it one more for this week. Although since it is Thursday, we will be lazy with bullet points. Sometimes those are more fun anyway.

  •  I am in a state of constant soreness from Bootcamp.  This is a struggle because it makes me want a massage, but there is no way I will fork over the cash for one as often as I’d like.  Particularly this week, my bum bum and arms have been feeling it.  There may or may not have been a day or two I could not lower myself down to sit on the toilet.  So being the risk-taker that I am, I chose to free-fall those last 6 inches.  Life on the edge, people.  If I do not have a real bum (with shape) after this, I will know it just isn’t possible for me. #flatbottomgirls
  • ps on Bootcamp. I am having some kind of strange knee pain that makes squatting and even driving painful.  I asked my trainer what stretches I could do, or if possibly I was doing an exercise wrong.  His response: “Quit stretching, and take 2 Advil.” #okthankyou
  • I have roots, and I am not getting a color until the 19th.  I feel a little janky.  (learned this word from a Portland coworker- just trying it out)
  • Speaking of roots.  Much to Jason’s chagrin, I think I will be going a little lighter next hair appointment.  I feel like I am constantly root-tastic and it’s not cute.  Plus even though my hair color is “darkest brown” everyone calls my hair black and that bothers me for some reason.  A few months ago, Jason felt it wise to point out that my hair color occurs naturally only in the Asian population.  That went well for him.  Despite that, he begs me to keep my color this dark.  I remind him he fell in love with me when my hair was a touch lighter, and he will get used to it.  (I know, I am a real catch.)
  • Today I bought 2 powerball tickets in light of my luck this week.  Then it occurred to me that maybe all my winning means I’ve used up all my luck.  Oops?
  • Besides the end of the day when I talk to Jason, my biggest joy in weekday life is my post-Bootcamp chocolate milk.  I didn’t have plans to drink chocolate milk again really for the rest of life.  However, recently I was given direction to have a low-sugar/non fat chocolate milk or protein shake within an hour of finishing class for muscle recovery.  This is almost like when my dentist ordered me to have nothing but a milkshake for the rest of the day after a procedure.  To this I say: “OK!!! I’ve been waiting my whole life to be receive orders like this.”
  • I love Jason and I am excited to see him tomorrow…hopefully…currently he is at home sick from work.  Poor kid.
  • I love #datenight.  Did I say that already?
  • Only 5 more work days until Christmas Vacation!!
  • I conclude this random post while dreaming of the gigantic Starbucks I am going to get tomorrow- because I only get Starbucks on Fridays.  It is kind of the best thing.

Blog challenge.

Recently a dear friend of mine informed me she was doing a December blog challenge- to blog every single day! She informed me my best version would be blogging once a week.  Love real friends.

I am a #sporadicblogger, but maybe someday it will stick?

What’s been up lately?  I like recaps best when they’re by photos.  Instagram is more my speed and something I can typically keep up with.  [Also, does anyone even remotely like facebook anymore or is it just me annoyed with what it has become lately?]

Here’s what I feel lately: grateful.  This is a crazy fun season of life.  Friends getting engaged, friends getting married, buying houses, having babies.  I am so happy for all of the joyful announcements and celebrations all around.  God is good and faithful, and He answers our prayers.  For a long time, I thought I could settle for less than God’s best and be happy anyway.  I don’t think so anymore.  Mostly I just thank Him that He has brought me to where I am today.  It makes me want to cry how undeserving I am but how loving and gracious He is in spite of my weakness.                                                                  Enough with the watery eyes, let’s photo bomb!

Fallin in love in the sweet heart of summer.

On a date at the Oregon State Fair.  This day was so fun, and Jake Owen put on a great show.  It is my personal belief that you cannot go to the fair without ending the night on the ferris wheel.  Turns out I found someone who agrees with me.

September brought 1 last boat day and then all of the fun of football season!

On to October.

Sometimes I think he is so cute I have to sneak a picture of him.

November brought this boy’s birthday!!! We went to the beach with his family for the weekend.Image

I love #datenight.  The best thing about living in different places is how excited we still get for every Friday night!Image

Another place I have been spending a good amount of time in the last month: the gym.  I joined my Mom’s bootcamp class after attending on a whim and a 2 week free trial.  I have never felt so sore/strong/hurts so good.  If you’ve seen me in the last couple weeks, it’s quite likely I’ve made you feel my bicep.  #normal  I really am enjoying it though, and the fruits that come with the labor ; )

Image

This might be my new favorite picture of us…except for how classy that dusty mirror is.  Oops.  This was our pre-Thanksgiving date night.  I decided to dress up for fun, and unbeknownst to me, Jason did too.  He wanted to keep it a surprise where we were going and Homeboy hit a homerun when he took me to Rudy’s.  We had the best time!

ImageMy cousin’s sweet baby in the jam jams I got him at Thanksgiving.  I love getting together with all of our family.  It goes too fast, but is such a sweet day.

December so far ; )

This weekend we went to the Zoolights (thank you, Boeing!) with Jason’s roommates and their girlfriends.  It was a cold and rainy night, but we had hot cocoa and an umbrella.  Afterward, Jason took me to Portland City Grill for dinner.  Such a fun night!

This month is off to a VERY wonderful start, and I cannot wait for all of the great times ahead with family and friends for Christmas!! Christmas, you are my favorite!!!!

Seattle.

So. Last week the Walkers went on a mini getaway to Seattle for this girl’s birthday.  [You might remember we have done this once before.]

Typically we just go for a long weekend.  We take the train, we eat real good food, we watch some baseball games, we shop at the Flagship for the Nordstrom Anniversary sale, and then we hit the Spa.  It is kind of the best thing.

As expected, all good vacations start like this:

And then we took this:

This year we stayed here.

in downtown Seattle.  I did already Instagram this, but here’s the view from our room.

and at night:

So pretty.  Our family friend is a VP for Red Lion Hotels and he hooked us up with a great view.

We stayed across the street from one of my favorite Seattle staples- Specialty’s Bakery.  We may or may not have gone there every day for breakfast.[and by gone there every day, I mean 2 of the times this nice couple I know brought me breakfast in bed. #sleepyhead]  I discovered this place while in Seattle back in ’09 with one of my Colorado roommates. And yes I know, who has diet pepsi as their breakfast beverage? This girl! #Iamclassy

Well who do we have here? TWalk would probably kill me for this paparazzi style shot. I don’t care.  I think they’re cute.

These next few pictures are from our last dinner- right on the Waterfront.  The first picture has a shot of the brand new ferris wheel in Seattle [not a fair, a permanent fixture]. Maybe next time I’ll ride.

We had the best waiter ever and we kibitzed about everything from the Mariners, the weather, food, to his slow pitch softball team.  It’s a restaurant league.  Homeboy was the funniest.  He seemed to think we had to wait unnecessarily long for our meal (We were fine with it), so he sent over the owner of the restaurant and an offer of 2 desserts on the house.  Who were we to argue?  The first was a chocolate souffle that Mom and I shared and it was #unbelievable.

I will conclude with this final thought: If you are one of the ‘Spa girls’ then you should probably add the Spa Nordstrom to your bucket list.  I have dreams of taking friends there someday.  It is almost as good as Heaven, and I look forward to my time there pretty much all year.  Even when I worked for Corban, it was worth the splurge.  Best pedicure of your life people.

I mean HI, please look at these.

I am even dreaming of buying one of their amazing robes- but I know it won’t be quite the same ; )
